Every state loves its fair. The Arizona State Fair is certainly no exception. It runs from October 6 through October 29, 2017 – that’s almost an entire month of Arizona State Fair activities! With so much sunshine and wonderful weather, it is a platform for many of Arizona’s special personalities to shine.
What’s Going On At The Fair?
The concerts! The food! The rides! The animals! The competitions! Where to start? There will be something for everyone that is for sure.
Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum Concert Series
Who’s on tap for the 2017 Arizona State Fair concert series? Gary Allan will be performing on October 6 at the Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum. Others in the concert series include Cake (October 7); Billy Currington (October 11); Halestorm (October 12); Fiesta Friday on October 13; Gin Blossoms (October 14); Jake Miller (October 15); Randy Houser (October 19); Café Tacvba (October 20); and last, but certainly not least, Snoop Dogg (October 21).
Food
To some fair-goers, it’s all about the food. Where else can get you “fair food” any better than a state fair? The Arizona State Fair highlights the very popular funnel cake, of course, as well as the traditional fair fare (yes, intended!) of a turkey leg. Have you ever tried deep-fried pumpkin pie? Or deep-fried pork belly on a stick? For the healthier minded, not to worry – healthy food options will be available also, including fruits and veggies. You can even participate on the Culinary Stage and show off your chef skills.
Rides and Games
To kids, young and old, the Arizona State Fair is all about the rides. The Arizona State Fair wants to ensure all participants are safe (especially children) and, therefore, offers a PDF of Guidelines online that you can download to ensure a safe visit. Here’s a great incentive for kids: the SRP Read and Ride Program states that when kids read three books, they can ride three fair rides for free!
Animals
Chickens, llamas, deer, ducks, donkeys, pigs, and … an Australian wallaby are all part of the Great American Petting Zoo that will be in the Cattle Barn. Always great fun and educational for young and old alike, everyone will love seeing and feeding these cute animals.
Competitions
From eating contests to livestock competitions, and from cooking contests even to online contests, you have the opportunity to show off whatever skills you possess at the 2017 Arizona State Fair.
