Welcome to Encanto Village

Encanto Village consists of 15 urban communities near Downtown Phoenix.

Encanto

The village includes much of the city's midtown and uptown districts, as well as it's most popular community and namesake, Encanto. Originally intended to cover 80 acres of residential land, visionaries Dwight B. Heard and William G. Hartranft purchased the land from an estate in the late 1920s and developed the Palmcroft subdivision, located on the south side of Palm Lane. Two other real estate developers — Lloyd C. Lakin and George T. Peter — developed the Encanto subdivision of the estate to the north of Palm Lane. Following an economic downturn, the west portion of the land was sold to the City of Phoenix to be used for a park with homes in close proximity, leaving the Encanto neighborhood development on the north and south sides of Palm Lane.

Residents of the Encanto community benefit from the neighborhood associations and their mission of preserving the area and enhancing the quality of life. This non-profit organization elects board representatives, hosts public meetings, advocates for historic preservation and raises money to financially fund community activities, charitable opportunities and neighborhood events. The Encanto Historic Preservation Association usually holds a home tour and street fair every two years to not only raise money but to introduce and welcome people to the Encanto community.
